164/3.9 Advice Forum

I am graduating early (3 years instead of 4) at Virginia Tech May 2014 (philosophy and political science double major) and right now I have a maintainable 3.9 GPA. I took the June LSAT without taking a prep class, but did study on my own, and got a 164. I have a few questions:

1) How likely am I to get into UVA if my results hold?

2) Should I retake and is a prep class worth while?

3) Can W&M Law (my back up right now) place me into a job making 100k right out of school?

4) I cannot decide what kind of law to practice. I like Constitutional, but I am worried about job potential. Any advice here?

To answer your original questions, probably not getting into UVA. With ED maybe you have a shot? Not really sure, I'll let someone else comment on it, but I doubt its a good one.

Only you can answer #2. Did you honestly give it your all the first time? As in 3-4 months at least 3 hrs a day? If not, then do that with Manhattan/PS, etc. If you did do that though, then it might be worth it. Personally, I hated my class, would rather move at my own pace.

3) It could, but its risky and IMO not worth it, especially with a 3.9.

4) I'm a 0L, but TCR on these forums seems to be nobody does going in, so dont really worry about it.

You probably think that everyone here just likes posting retakes on each other's posts. That's true, but what's also true is that a retake makes the most sense with your GPA. Why get into UVA and pay 200k when you can take 2-3 months of studying to get some more points and only go for 100k or less.
