how does law school hiring work?
I have read up much on law school admissions, but i do not know much about how the recruiting from law schools work. All I see is people talking about getting jobs after 1L, do they mean securing a job at a firm after bar passage? How does this sh*t work?
thanks in advance

You get a job as a 2l or commit suicide (if already in overwhelming debt.)

Go look in the Legal Employment forum, read all the posts stickied at the top. (Don't post there, 0Ls can't post there, but you can read ALLLLLL about it.) The hiring process is generally called OCI (on-campus interviewing) so look for info about that.
Also, ignore the previous answer.

You finish in the top 40% at a T-10, you get a job.
You finish in the Top 30% at a T25, you get a job.
You finish in the Top 20% at a T50, you get a job.
If you don't fit into those paramaters, then the chances of you not getting a job are 80%.

Seems a bit steep, doesn't it? I would think you'd need to finish in the top 50% to grab a jerb from a T10.sparty99 wrote:You finish in the top 40% at a T-10, you get a job.

Does the difference between 40 and 50% really matter? No. No it doesn't.PRgradBYU wrote:Seems a bit steep, doesn't it? I would think you'd need to finish in the top 50% to grab a jerb from a T10.sparty99 wrote:You finish in the top 40% at a T-10, you get a job.

T10 is kinda a super big category too... T3 v 6 v 10 probs have fairly different thresholdssparty99 wrote:Does the difference between 40 and 50% really matter? Re: how does law school hiring work?
If you want a big firm job, you go through an interviewing process just before your 2L year. You potentially get an offer to work at the firm your 2L summer. At the end of that summer they choose whether or not to give you a permanent offer for after you graduate. This is more or less the only way to get a big firm job as an entry level. So if you don't get a job after your1L, you probably won't work in big law.
