Extended Application Deadlines?? Forum

Okay, so just a quick question...

Lately I've been getting TONS of emails from various universities stating that their application deadline has been extended by a month for the fall semester. Most of these schools I've never considered applying to, however some of them are pretty notable schools and seem like a decent fallback option...

So I was curious, does the fact that they are extending their deadlines mean that they have not met their quota and thus would be more likely to accept me? Or is this just a ploy to get more money from hopeless applicants??
