Requisite LSAT score for me to avoid retake?
Simple post here. My LSAD GPA's 3.92 and I'm shooting for the mid-170s on the LSAT in June, so I guess I know the score that I need to feel comfortable applying to HYS with. But I wonder what the threshold is for avoiding a retake. Anything under 173? Under 170? Perhaps I should retake any score under 175 to play it safe?

170: Should get you everywhere almost guaranteed but HYS (but still competitive chance at HYS).
173: Enjoy a Butler (maybe a Hamilton?), and 1 of HYS
175: Enjoy a Hamilton and 2 of HYS (depending on softs; otherwise 1 of HYS)
179: Retake, ED to UVA

Butlers and Hamiltons are not nearly that predictable or assured on the basis of LSAT/GPA. Many people with very high numbers are offered neither, and a fair number of Butler offerees have higher numbers than Hamilton offerees.boblawlob wrote:170: Should get you everywhere almost guaranteed but HYS (but still competitive chance at HYS).

You don't happen to be a URM, do you?Otunga wrote:Simple post here. Definitely. Actually, HYS acceptances and T14 schollies in general are not predictable.Ti Malice wrote:Butlers and Hamiltons are not nearly that predictable or assured on the basis of LSAT/GPA. My predications are just (extremely) rough estimates.

You'll want to be above all LSAT medians (173 being the highest). If you don't get into Harvard with a 174, something was wrong with your app/interview.Otunga wrote:Simple post here. 4.17/177 here and I got neither. (kanyeshrug)Ti Malice wrote: Butlers and Hamiltons are not nearly that predictable or assured on the basis of LSAT/GPA. Many people with very high numbers are offered neither, and a fair number of Butler offerees have higher numbers than Hamilton offerees.
When I was in your shoes, 172+ was definitely don't retake, 170/1 was a maybe, and 169- was definitely retake. Of course I landed in maybe. Don't be afraid to wait and see what happens and how you feel when you get your score.
I'd say 173 would give you a pretty reliable shot at H barring horrible PS/LORs/interviewing skills.

I think the general consensus seems to be 181 or retake

I was confused, I'll say that much. Made my decision much easier, though.
