Thinking of sending an app to Stanford this afternoon...
I assumed because of my 3.59 gpa I would be auto-dismissed from Stanford and that Harvard was my hail mary. Looking at LSN I found under ten individuals with my range of numbers (3.5-3.6 GPA, 172-176 LSAT) who applied to Stanford and one of them was accepted. My LSAT is a 176. I improved a few points in a retake this December.
Is this just burning money or should I assume that I have a non-zero chance given this guy's acceptance?

Eh, guy was an HYP grad and says "self-selected non-traditional." Considering how much he outperformed his numbers (getting in everywhere but Harvard (and still might), and with some monster schollies), I would assume that there is something special about his apps.... or he's lying.
What's the app fee, like $75? I wouldn't bother. But I'm poor, so if you have the money to blow, then whatever. Good luck.

Is it worth $96 to you to know for sure? If so, go for it.

I am non-traditional as well but don't know what 'self-selected' means...
Think I'm going to go ahead and do it. It will cost $121.

It means that that person, when creating his LSN profile, chose to identify himself as a non-traditional applicant and that the criteria he used to make that determination was his own.GoingForGold wrote:I am non-traditional as well but don't know what 'self-selected' means...

Oh...I thought 'non-traditional' meant individuals who did not apply directly after undergrad.

Usually, but who knows what this particular person meant?

Go for it. I'm applying with a 3.81/170 so I'm a reacher as well. This cycle is unpredictable and it's worth a show, if you have disposable income. Who know, we may see each other in the fall if we're both lucky.
Best of luck!

Exactly. Basically, terms such as non-traditional and self-selected mean nothing because they could mean anything. There is no way to know the reasoning behind a certain person choosing a certain term. It is sort of like a food company using the term diet on their packaging.North wrote:It means that that person, when creating his LSN profile, chose to identify himself as a non-traditional applicant and that the criteria he used to make that determination was his own.GoingForGold wrote:I am non-traditional as well but don't know what 'self-selected' means...
