Re: 1 bad semester
I would say don't bother... I mean what exactly would you say? A more diplomatic version of "the teachers didn't like me?" I feel like it comes off as too whiny and making excuses- unless you have a legitimate reason for the drop (i.e. medical issues, death in the family), I think the addendum will probably hurt you. I feel your pain though I am in the same situation now my gpa is about to take a bit of a hit. Sucks, but nothing you can say to HYS that'll make them look past it.

Re: 1 bad semester
Im guessing with the gpa drop your around a 3.8-3.85 and 174-175ish? If thats the case, then no, by no means are you out at HYS. The drop in gpa obviously hurts, but its not totally catastrophic. By the sound of it if you only have taken 6 semesters your a junior? You can get it back up a bit. This is all very speculative without more definite numbers, so if you provide them TLS can give you a more accurate guess. But its kind of pointless without an LSAT score- cant count your chickens before theyve hatched. Bottom line, buckle down next couple of semesters, take your LSAT, and you are in the running for HYS, assuming my guesses at the top were accurate.

Re: 1 bad semester
yeah you are gonna be alright. Best advice is of course keeping that gpa up after this semester, and also study your ass off for the LSAT. I made the mistake of half assing it my first time and now have to take a year off. Trust me, you don't want to be in my boat. Prep as much as you possibly can, and then prep some more. If you can get that up into the upper 170s, your gpa drop won't matter at HS (Y it still may). Best of luck to you, hope you can achieve all of this!!!

I want to give you a wedgie so badly right now.meadow201 wrote:talked with prof. might be able to squeak out a 3.7-3.8. he asked me why I care about grades so much. I said pbk/law school. He thinks I can get H w/ 3.5. You think his thinking that I'm obsessed w/ my gpa will cause him to give me lower grades to teach me a lesson?

After realizing how LSAC calculates GPAs, asked ~4 teachers when I had a 97+ to give me an A+ because of lawschool. (My school doesn't use +/-s for GPA)
Worked twice I think.

They were able to put an A+ on your transcript, even though the school doesn't calculate them any differently from an A? Was it common for instructors to award A+ grades, even though it didn't give the student any additional benefit?sinfiery wrote:After realizing how LSAC calculates GPAs, asked ~4 teachers when I had a 97+ to give me an A+ because of lawschool. Pretty clever of you to ask, regardless - glad you were able to get a little boost as a result.

95% of teachers didn't distinguish a 99 from a 90 in any way because it had zero impact on their calculated GPA.ScottRiqui wrote: They were able to put an A+ on your transcript, even though the school doesn't calculate them any differently from an A? That's why I was (pleasantly) surprised to hear that there was even a mechanism in place to put an A+ on the student's transcript.sinfiery wrote:95% of teachers didn't distinguish a 99 from a 90 in any way because it had zero impact on their calculated GPA.ScottRiqui wrote: They were able to put an A+ on your transcript, even though the school doesn't calculate them any differently from an A? lol,meadow201 wrote:didn't beg. asked how i was doing, whether i can do extra work. what i'm asking tls now is whether his knowing my obsession with grades could make him award a lower grade than he would otherwise to teach me a lesson about grades' insignificance
it depends on the person..

Who talks with their professors that often. You're going to be an obnoxious gunner in law school, I predict.
