Application timelines

Post by phelps84 » Wed Nov 28, 2012 4:16 pm

I've been waiting on my 2nd letter of rec to come in for the past 2 weeks now, and thus haven't submitted any of my applications yet. I have always heard that "before Thanksgiving" was a pretty soft deadline to give yourself a better chance at admission to the top schools; how big of an impact do you think it will have if I apply by, say, December 2nd at the latest?

I'm hoping for HYS with solid numbers (178/3.7), and am looking for any feedback on how crucial it is I get my letter of rec now vs the weekend, as I don't want to unnecessarily pester my rec writer.

you can get some sense of this on mylsn.info if you play around with the time of app submission.

Here:

I've seen that actually, which is what somewhat worries me. My question is does November 28 vs December 2 really make a huge difference? Based off of those stats it seems to, but just looking for some qualitative feedback. I'm really holding onto my slim hope for Harvard.

I'm really not sure. Good luck though! it seems you have a pretty good shot in the dec-jan range regardless.

I would start throwing some safety school applications to schools that only require one letter.
