I'm just glad someone's started this thread. Yeah it's one of the schools I'm applying to, mostly because I wanna stay in Houston.

Also, this should go in the "Law School Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists" forum.

You really think so? Yea I'm kind of if-y too. I took a tour of the campus of on Friday and it was very nice and cozy. I might give it a shot.lnh819 wrote:South Texas College of Law?? I applied there but am unlikely to attend.
And yea Houston is a great place to be at. I was really curious on other
people applying there because I still haven't gotten anything on whether my application
file is complete or not. I know it hasn't been long but the wait is killing me!
And sorry about the forum haha still new

Haha I figured you were new. Yeah not really sure if they usually take this long to get back to you about whether your app is complete or not. Previous threads only say that decisions tend to come out Jan/Feb, with a few Decembers. Honestly I can't believe that I haven't even gotten an email yet with my username and pw to LOG IN to my status check. But a lot of other threads do mentions various schools that are slow with keeping their applicants updated so this is definitely not something to stress about. Best just to wait it out, I suppose.law1992 wrote:You really think so? Yea I'm kind of if-y too. I took a tour of the campus of on Friday and it was very nice and cozy. Everyone in this thread needs to step back from the ledge. Slowly and carefully now...

I hardly think this is the "ledge". Other threads are far worse.nealric wrote:Everyone in this thread needs to step back from the ledge. Slowly and carefully now...

If given the choice between jumping off an 800 ft ledge or a 1,000 ft ledge, I'd choose neither. A 59.2% legal employment score on LST is pretty scary.potterpirate04 wrote:I hardly think this is the "ledge". Re: STCL Fall 2013
Figured that that was the ledge being referred to. Eh, to each their own. I'm certainly not advocating STCL (btw, theres's a separate forum for advocating a school or discussing reasons why one shouldn't go to it and this one clearly isn't it) but each person's got their own situation. Besides, the stats of STCL have been discussed everywhere online and on this site, so each person is capable of making their own informed decision for themselves.goldenflash19 wrote:If given the choice between jumping off an 800 ft ledge or a 1,000 ft ledge, I'd choose neither. Nope, because this thread is in the wrong forum and this forum is the forum for that. HTH.potterpirate04 wrote:(btw, theres's a separate forum for advocating a school or discussing reasons why one shouldn't go to it and this one clearly isn't it)
Also, this is what $170,000 gets you at STCL.

2.5% chance at biglaw is pretty sweet though, good odds for any Spartan

Haha well whoever thinks STCL is such a terrible school shouldn't worry about other people applying there. Everyone has their goals on where they'd like to attend law school. Nothing wrong in that.

Re: STCL Fall 2013
59% is actually pretty good given the school's ranking and admissions data. Usually schools with 25th GPAs in the 2.XX are ones you want to sprint away from. If you're living at home, and just paying tuition, it's not all that terrible a deal. Just make sure you either have a job lined-up, graduate in the top 25%, or preferably both.

The top 25%, really? I'd say more like the top 5%, but that's my opinion. I wouldn't go to a school like this unless I had a great job already lined up.RhymesLikeDimes wrote:Just make sure you either have a job lined-up, graduate in the top 25%, or preferably both.

And almost a 60% chance to end up in a 2-10 lawyer firm or "business and industry"PRgradBYU wrote:The top 25%, really? I'd say more like the top 5%, but that's my opinion. This leaves about a third of the class unemployed, almost two thirds in shitty situations, and those lucky 20 people out of 400 lucking out.

+1. Everyone going to schools like STCL thinks that, but it's a statistical impossibility.Nova wrote:You cant just "make sure you graduate in the top 25%"

Re: STCL Fall 2013
Your use of quotation marks confuses me. I'm only on here to offer some insight on why attending STCL--regardless of your situation--isn't a good idea. But don't take my word for it; of the 59.2% of recent STCL graduates that are employed, the median salary is $55k. Just sayin'. Re: STCL Fall 2013
Actually what the salary data suggests is that 55K is the 90th percentile in salary outcomes; 41K is 85th percentile. This overwhelmingly suggests that unless you are independently wealthy or get a big scholarship, there is a near 100% chance that you won't be able to make your loan payments. 70K is around the 95th percentile salary for SCTL grads and even that is nowhere near enough to pay back 170K on a 10-year plan....maybe on a 25-year plan.PRgradBYU wrote:Your use of quotation marks confuses me. Re: STCL Fall 2013
My man law1992 doesn't want to hear that kind of stuff, he has his own goals on where he wants to spend three years and a "valuable" 170k.somewhatwayward wrote:Actually what the salary data suggests is that 55K is the 90th percentile in salary outcomes; 41K is 85th percentile.
