I'm currently a journalist working at a legal newspaper, so half of my job involves combing through appellate court opinions and translating the legalese into something more accessible to the public. I got into a couple T14s last app cycle, but I took some time off for financial reasons and plan apply for '14.
I know there's an option to add additional miscellaneous addenda to apps, but I've never really heard of anyone including a positive (as opposed to negative, as in explaining a low GPA or LSAT) addendum with an application. I've truly learned a lot about the law through this job, and I feel like it would be helpful to send a clip along with the application - just a ~500 word published story analyzing some grey area in the law.
Anyone else include anything like this in an application? Not sure if it's appropriate, but after thinking about it, I don't really see how it could hurt.

Oh man, it would be so much cooler if you worked for a pirate newspaper.gable sans stache wrote:I'm currently a journalist working at a legal newspaper,
I wouldn't attach it. Law schools already have a ton of stuff to read; they don't need everyone attaching their favorite paper from undergrad, or the best piece of work they did for their boss, etc... They ask for a personal statement to give you an opportunity to write about pretty much whatever you want. If you want to discuss how much you learned about the law in your current job, you can do so there. And put the publication on your resume.

We tell people we're legal but we're actually only 16 1/2 and abnormally developed. And yeah, that's what I figured, especially because we aren't quite the New Yorker, except for the palpable pretense. Thanks for the input.

Again, put it on the resume. If they're really that interested in reading it, they can find a copy themselves (hint - they probably won't be).vzapana wrote:what if it's from an extremely prestigious pub, like nyt mag, new yorker, atlantic, etc?
