how screwed am I
I applied to WUSTL a few days ago and during the entire application process I thought I was applying to the University of Washington. So my personal statement and everything are about Seattle. lol. I'm guessing they will just laugh and reject me?
Is there a way I can withdraw my app. before they read it?

I'm sorry, but this is rich. I would love to be in the room when they read your PS.
You could email them the correct PS and then call them and let me know you submitted the incorrect PS...no need to let them know you mixed the two schools up.

It's not just the personal statement. There was another question about why you are specifically interested in this school and I answered it as if I was applying to U of W.

You're not getting into WUSTL unless you have amazing numbers, and even then, maybe not. This is like the one thing admissions officers always cite as a pet peeve.

This just made my day...I know that this sucks for you, but come on. How could you not have known what school you are applying to. Fantastic

Ouch. That sucks, man, but I think there's a good chance you should probably just cross WUSTL off your list. They might "let" you replace the essays and such, but they wouldn't forget it. Schools don't even like it when you accidentally leave the wrong school's name in one line of your PS, let alone send an entire app package tailored to the wrong school.

You're not necessarily screwed.
In a question posed to Georgetown Dean of Admission Andy Cornblatt on the effect of such mistakes, he writes:
"I actually just read one of those the other day. I think it'll happen, over the course of reading 12,000 files...maybe fifty times? Not a good way to go. Most of this is inadvertent though, it's still sloppy, but if someone recaptures the initiative and sends in something to the effect of “my mistake, here's the correction” that's absolutely fine."
Just write to the school, apologize, and send an attached, modified personal statement, and statement of interest in WashU.

On the plus side now you don't have to go to WUSTL.

Just tell them you sent the wrong one. Probably fine, if you want to go there and have the numbers IMO.
But I gotta say, i was LMFAO. But partly because I thought initially you meant they accepted you with that PS.

I would be so happy if WUSTL still took you. Someone in admissions has to have a good sense of humor.

you don't really need amazing numbers to get into WUSTL...
OP if you have a 167+ LSAT score (and really care about getting into and going to WUSTL), call the admissions office and explain to them what happened. they may or may not bite - you really have nothing to lose at this point.

I'm wondering about the wisdom of applying to both WashU and WUSTL

Re: how screwed am I
But he's clearly attempting to get into both. He's concerned about his chances at WUSTL, as evidenced by the thread. However, if he's writing a PS about Seattle, then obviously he's applying to Washington. This is odd behavior, unless he just doesn't care where he lives and works at all, or is playing the hell out of the scholarship game.El_Gallo wrote:University of Washington and Washington Universitydingbat wrote:I'm wondering about the wisdom of applying to both WashU and WUSTL
