Differences btwn job hunting resume & LS app resume?

Post by bobbypin » Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:57 pm

I have a typical job-hunting resume. What should I add or subtract when adding it to my law school apps?

I went to the career center of my university. The advisor suggested I add a section of relevant coursework (classes that are law related). What do you think?

I think that's a bad idea.

It is completely fine to have the same resume for job applications and LS applications.

Move your ECs above work experience. Remove any skills section (law schools don't care that you know how to use PowerPoint). Remove any 'Objective' section (which is always BS anyway). Put more info about your academics honors/awards, if you removed any in favor of info about your work experience.

I noticied that some people for OCI had an interests section on their resume. I've never had an interests section on my job resume, but is this something that would be of benefit for a LS app resume?

Nobody gives a flying fuck about your interests. It's what you put on a resume when you don't have enough meat to fill the page. It should be the first thing you jettison when you run out of real estate.

I plan to put a few hobbies into my resume because I have nothing else.

I have my education, my part time jobs, and my volunteering. That's it. I'll add on my second language, and typing speed, and a few of my hobbies.

It's all I got and I think it will give them a slightly more appropriate perception of who I am winch is better than blank space.

This. Also, if you had to write a senior thesis/dissertation, add it. That's the only relevant coursework the ad comm is interested in.

It's essential for legal jobs. Your CSO will tell you that.

For law school, it's not necessary.
