early decision

from a purely objective standpoint, does applying early to a school give you a better chance at gaining admission like it did with undergrad admissions?

Different schools have varying degrees of a bonus, but some schools like UVA are known to give a pretty substantial boost.

Largely depends on the school (with certain schools like UVA giving a notoriously large boost for ED candidates) but by its very nature it should. It guarantees for a school a student paying full price; they can be sure that they secure both the applicants score (provided that they help the school's median) and their money.
