Columbia + NYU ED Boost
I've been hearing a lot of back and forth on the forum about whether or not sending in an application ED to CLS or NYU actually boosts your chances of acceptance.
Is there a definitive answer on this or does it really vary based on your numbers?

It does if you are close, but honestly the medians have been dropping at both of these schools due to the fact there are just less people with the necessary #s anymore (LSAT enrollment has gone down) and what is just below 25 percentile this year could be 25% next year and get you in.

ED won't help at most schools unless you had some chance of getting in RD. CLS and NYU are like most schools.

Even with data it's not at all a controlled situation so interpretation is difficult. That being said, the LSN searcher shows that at least for people with around my numbers, historically CLS seems to not give any boost for ED while NYU does (not as much as MVP for example but enough to be noticeable).

That's what I thought. I've been hearing so much about people using ED to boost their chances, but I always figured the only reason to ED was if you were completely in love with a school.
Any chance that it might have a significant boost for splitters or soft splitters?

Re: Columbia + NYU ED Boost
When people say there is no or insignificant ED boost at CLS, what they are saying is that the boost is not as big as what schools like UVA or Penn may give you. At these schools, a significant splitter may get in ED as long as their LSAT is high enough but would not get in RD.
If you are marginal at CLS, ED may be enough to tip you over. (there is a boost, not a big one)

"3.64/174 marginal at CLS?"
That's the million dollar question!
I think you are safe at RD CLS with 3.64/174
3.64/172, however, may be marginal at CLS

Re: Columbia + NYU ED Boost
You're at the median LSAT and below the median GPA, so yeah pretty marginal.
