Michigan Fee Waiver

Post by lawschoolboundfuture » Thu Aug 23, 2012 3:04 pm

I got a michigan packet in the mail but didnt see a fee waiver with it? Thought it was unusual because all the other packets I've gotten have fee waivers. Did I just miss it when I looked through the packet?

I got this email yesterday re: fee waivers:
Dear 02889,

Thank you for your interest in Michigan Law. We offer merit-based fee waivers through LSAC's Candidate Referral Service. If you are registered for that service and qualify for a waiver, it will appear automatically in your LSAC account after our application goes live on September 1

[Blah, blah, blah.]

Regards,

Joe

Got my viewbook and waiver today via snail mail. Though I am: 1) an in-state applicant, 2) a UMich UG, and 3) have already visited the school.... so any of those could be confounding factors.

Did you get a letter with the packet? I think the first round of waivers was dated 8/22, packages included a viewbook and a letter from Dean Z that explicitly states that the application fee has been waived.

I am none of the three and I got a fee waiver.

Did anyone else get a handwritten note on their letter?

+1 for the handwritten note. I wonder if it was just a color copier or actual blue ink :P

BTW even if you don't get the pamphlet and the handwritten note, you can still email and ask for a fee waiver.

Are you sure this is true? I had just emailed them last week and the response (posted above) was that they only did them through CRS and it would show up in the application. Was I just politely, though indirectly being told that I wouldn't be getting one?

So has anyone had any success soliciting a fee waiver from UM?

Definitely a real hand written note from Dean Z - just another example of why UMich is so great!
If I get in, will definitely frame the letter with my UMich UG admission letter. Had a handwritten note on that one as well! :)

I got an LSAC waiver for this year, and on Mich's fee waiver app, they basically ask you to attach a copy of the LSAC waiver approval and e-mail it in. It would be nice of them to make it automatic, but alas. I understand their need to limit waivers.
