I'm starting to put together some Why X essays for MVP, and I'm finding it really hard to sound genuine i.e. talking about something beyond what's on the school's website (clinics, etc.) and employment numbers from LST.
My essay will be well written, but I'm afraid that schools are going to think I'm just putting down a bunch of BS (I've never visited or lived any where near any of these schools), and that's it's going to weaken the rest of my application (with a strong PS and LORs). Any thoughts?

Visit and then write about your visit. Plenty of time still for this.

I live on the West Coast. A line in an extra essay is not worth hundreds of dollars unfortunately.InGoodFaith wrote:Visit and then write about your visit. Plenty of time still for this.
Thanks for this. This helps.

Re: Writing a genuine Why X Essay
Basically my essay looks like this (obviously it's not the same for all 3, but it's similar).
1 lengthy paragraph about a couple of clinics that I am interested in
1 paragraph about employment numbers for both private and public sector depending on the school
1 paragraph about what I find attractive about the surrounding city/area
It's about 500 words

This, but if you can't visit make sure to do research online - programs, clinics, LRAP, job placement, professors, extracurriculars, etc. Half an hour of research will make a Why X pretty easy.InGoodFaith wrote:Visit and then write about your visit. Plenty of time still for this.
