Next summer I'm interested in getting an internship of some sort in the field of law. Now, my question is what will appear more impressive on a resume or for admissions. I have a friend that told me that I could probably get an unpaid internship at the Public Defenders office downtown, but I'd also be interesting at interning at a firm of some sort. Would interning at a firm be drastically more impressive, if at all? Do opportunities like that actually exist for an undergrad?
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Questions regarding potential internships
It doesn't really matter, either way. The internship at the firm might (MIGHT) make you some connections which will matter in a small way down the road (though probably not, since you won't be doing any serious work - this gofer - and so won't really be able to impress anyone). The intership at the Public Defender's office will probably involve you doing something more interesting, but there's an even smaller chance of it yielding any meaningful contacts unless you're interested in going back to that office.
As far as law school admissions is concerned, it's a wash.
