Applying before a possible retake?

Post by Easy-E » Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:10 pm

I'm sure this has been asked before, but here goes. I plan on applying for 2013, and am considering a second retake in October. As my numbers stand, I'm at a 3.1/169 with 2 years WE (nothing exceptional otherwise). NYC is my main goal, I'm looking at some financial support from my family, but I don't know if I would be comfortable with them picking up the whole tab at full-sticker from a school outside T14. That's just some background. My question is can I apply to schools September 1st, and still retake in October if I'm not happy with my results? I know if I explain to schools I'm taking the LSAT again, they probably won't look at the application until I get the new score, and I know the time difference between applying in September or October is negligible, but I guess I would just like to be able to see how I fair with my current score before taking the LSAT a third time (and possibly NOT doing better).

I hope my actual question is clear, sorry if this has been asked before or is just dumb scenario. I know I should just man-up, retake, and apply in October, but my last prep drained the shit out of me (working full time as well), especially coming up one short of my goal.

Sure, why not? Just send them an update, and they'll update your file. Or you can wait til after scores are published.

Honestly though, your GPA is your limiting factor for getting into a T14. But you should get plenty of money, even full rides from other schools w/ your current LSAT.

I guess the incentive is that if I applied in September and landed somewhere I wanted to go, I wouldn't have to take this god forsaken test again. NYC is my goal, though I'm starting to think I might change my mind since I think theirs plenty of regional schools I could get large schollys at. I guess the other issue is that I want BigLaw.
