Boston College is #29.
Based on that and if BC is your only goal, I'd apply the day apps come out. Doesn't mean you shouldn't take the December LSAT, though.

My fear in that situation would be that I get rejected right off the bat (a decent assumption given that I am significantluly below median LSAT), and they wouldnt reconsider with a new score on the books.

Per LSN, you would need to pull out at least a 167 to be a lock at BC with an on-time application. If you can make that happen, it would probably be your best bet all around. Look at this graph. See where it starts to light up green?
For the record, this is a rough decision to have to make. Every one of your options is a different kind of risky. Is sitting out a year if everything goes wrong completely off the table?
