My 1st year GPA!

Post by stefand1 » Tue May 15, 2012 10:40 am

After high school I took time off university and trained Waterpolo with the Canadian team (Junior nationals, would have now been on the senior team). After 2 years I realized there's no future in this and I need to go back to school as soon as possible. I came back and finished first year with really bad grades (finished with a C+ average). I'm now entering 4th year, about to do my LSAT June 11th (scoring consistently low-mid 170's on PT's). Since 1st year I've gotten only straight A's except for 1 other B, but regardless my GPA is still only a 3.5 when 1st year is included. I'm driving towards a top-notch school, and i'm wondering if my efforts are futile for lets say Harvard, Yale, Stanford? Will they put equal emphasis on my 1st year grades? Or will they see that i'm clearly pretty much a straight A student now and put more emphasis on my current, and most definately on-going trend?

They only care about your LSDAS cumulative GPA.

I'm aware of that, my question still stands: My LSDAC GPA is a 3.5, but will law schools care that if you were to exclude my first year my LSDAC GPA would be over a 3.9? Or does it not matter?

Note the upward trend in an addendum if you have an excuse other than I was a shitty student at first (i.e., death in the family, illness, etc). Otherwise the LSAC GPA will show your GPA from each year and it is pretty accurate.

The question is moot. You cannot exclude those grades; what law schools will look at is your cumulative LSDAC GPA.

This.

Also, a 3.5 knocks you out of YHS unless you are URM. With a 174+ LSAT you may be able to grab Columbia, Chicago, or NYU.
