3.0 cutoff and lsac gpa question
I know a lot of schools have 3.0 cutoffs for splitters and they look mostly at your LSAC cumulative GPA.
What if your LSAC gpa is above 3.0 and your UGPA is under 3.0? Do both have to make the 3.0 cutoff or just the LSAC gpa?
thanks

I would imagine the LSAC GPA, since that is the one that counts towards rankings. You could graduate with a 4.0 from your degree granting institution but they won't perceive it as such if you've got a ton of F's and D's from previous college work.

The only gpa schools will look at is what lsac reports

i was just wondering because there were brackets you had to choose from for your degree GPA on the LSAC website

If I'm thinking of the same thing that stuff isn't official and is just available for schools to look at your profile or whatever and send you brochures.tallfrodo wrote:i was just wondering because there were brackets you had to choose from for your degree GPA on the LSAC website

This.
And as far as a hard 3.0 gpa floor..... outside of the T18, no such thing exists.

Wrong. More than a few schools have 3.0 cutoffs. Emory, for example. LSN charts brah.Nova wrote:Br3v wrote:The only gpa schools will look at is what lsac reports

i wasn't implying there was a 3.0 hard cutoff. just the "soft" cutoff many T14 schools have. anyways thanks! i think i should be okay if that bracket thing is unoffical

I'm in the same boat as you, but from what I gather, your UGPA is irrelevant. (The grades matter of course but the LSDAS GPA is what is looked at)

Re: 3.0 cutoff and lsac gpa question
On LSN, 21 students with sub 3.0 gpas are are on Emorys waitllist. a 168/2.5 URM got in. It is true that 166+ & 3.0+ = likely admit, but you can still get in with a sub 3.0. I would say Emorys real wall of death is between 166 and 165. If one doesnt have 166+, they better have a 3.7+ to have a chance to get in.Sandro wrote:Wrong. More than a few schools have 3.0 cutoffs. We are probably just working off different definitions of gpa floor. I think of it as the school will not dip lower than X.XX. You are right to say having a sub 3.0 makes one's shot at Emory very slim.
This is correct.UVAhopeful wrote:I'm in the same boat as you, but from what I gather, your UGPA is irrelevant. (The grades matter of course but the LSDAS GPA is what is looked at)

Re: 3.0 cutoff and lsac gpa question
You're right, LSN shows they admitted 4 or so in the past 3 years who werent URMS. At the time i stopped looking at LSN charts obsessively last year during applications I didn't remember there being any. Still a much harder floor than schools who just prefer not admit below 3.0, Emory you have to be very very lucky.
