Decision: T14 at sticker or WashU at BIG discount?

Post by Soaphead_Church » Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:22 pm

I'm WL at some T10s I really like, and hope to get into one or more, but for now my decision is between Cornell and WashU, with Cornell's first deposit on Monday the 30th. I'd prefer not to waste the money because of indecision, but I also don't want to make the decision hastily.

Interests include corporate and IP, and I don't have a strong attachment to either region or city (I have ties to the midwest, but would be interested in the northeast). WashU has offered me 28/year unconditional, but for Cornell I'd be stuck paying their full tuition. I just don't know if a better placement program/more prestige is worth a tuition difference of 55k vs 18k. I'd appreciate any advice you have. Thanks!

I'd take Cornell if you want to do corporate work since that will be much harder out of WUSTL. Plus Cornell places very well in the area you want to be.

Though of course there is serious risk attached with paying sticker.

I'd take Cornell. Risky, but yeah.

^oh good call.

and yeah, i'm more concerned with the risk of cornell's debt than anything. i suppose i'm just somewhat risk-averse, but my parents can't help too much with debt b/c i've got two younger brothers, one in college (and then thinking med school) and the other entering high school.

makes it tough, but there won't be words for how tough it would be if columbia/nyu/penn let me in off the wl.
