First Deposits
Hello all,
I'm still waiting to hear back from several schools, but time is running out to make a first deposit as the schools I'm currently in. Here's my list of schools I applied to and results so far: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/Larsey/jd (also below)
I'd really like to graduate from a top 20 school, but so far that would mean getting off a waitlist or transferring. Interested in international law, and want to work in LA or Bay Area eventually.
Right now I'm thinking Hastings is my top current choice, but I just got $39k at San Diego offered yesterday. I know the ranking isn't super far off, but I get the impression that Hastings may be a substantially more valuable education.
Any thoughts you have on this initial deposit situation are appreciated--I sure hope I get off the waitlist as UCLA or UVA! My top choice would be Stanford, but that's a big stretch right now. Thanks!

Any ideas on how to compare San Diego and Hastings? I have heard mostly mediocre things about San Diego but a lot of great (and some negative) about Hastings.
Hastings said I won't hear back on merit or need based aid for probably 2 weeks.
The other one I might want to hang on to would be Santa Clara--they won't compete with other schools for aid but said they would consider an appeal after 04/01.

Why not relocate to Atlanta? No desire?Larsey wrote:Any ideas on how to compare San Diego and Hastings? I have heard mostly mediocre things about San Diego but a lot of great (and some negative) about Hastings.

Choose which area you will be happier living in. Consider the debt too. Also consider what your first job could pay and what you hope to make 10 yrs from now. Consider that the market is in a flux so what you would normally make 10 yrs out may not be what it used to be. Can you afford the debt? Does your living situation allow this?
Logic says Hastings/Emory.

Thanks--I want to find a CA job right after graduation (so T10 or T14ish if I'm going to school outside CA???), otherwise I think Emory would be a good choice. Since that's not the case, not really feeling the Emory vibe.
Since I haven't heard back from Hastings about $$$, what would you see as the 2nd choice CA school so far? Loyola's aid letters were mailed yesterday, per the fin aid office, so I should be hearing back from them with something any day now.

BU sticker > Hastings sticker and also cheaper.Larsey wrote:reasons?JoeMo wrote:Go to BU
BU, although not a national school in the sense that it's graduates don't necessarily spread out all over the place is still one with a recognizable game. Sounds to me like you have ties to CA and it would be feasible for you to use those ties plus your BU degree to come back and practice in the Bay Area.
Assuming you also like Boston and it would be a viable fall back for you.
