Does a criminal record automatically reject me for T6?

Post by jbc7 » Thu Mar 08, 2012 9:22 pm

Don't wanna tell the story, just know its not a felony, its a property crime. Just got charged like two days ago from a crime that occurred 2 and a half years ago. B&E, and another property crime.
I just took my LSAT several weeks ago, got 176.
Now these charges are coming to hunt me back from my past.
And my GPA right now is at 3.89, so yea these numbers are pretty much Harvard lock.
This is my first offense too. Clean record.

So yea, does anyone know if having a criminal record atomically rejects you from T6, mainly Columbia and Harvard.

The details probably do matter.

Keying your exgirlfriend's new boyfriend's car is probably a lot different than taking a professors wallet he left on his desk which would be different than poisoning the 100 year old oak trees at the rival football school.

None of which are good if they aren't even resolved......

Details would be nice, but hire a good attorney, and see if you can get this dismissed. They are misdemeanors, and you have proven the ability before and since the alleged crimes to control your self. It was a lapse in judgement, and will not happen again. Don't let stupid crap ruin your career before it even gets started.

If the guy has rehabilitated himself, I would hope that they give him an opportunity to pass. A former Fordham grad / current law professor (Roland Acevedo) was convicted of a felony and spent years in prison (for a violent felony at that) and was admitted to the bar. There's also a judge on the east coast somewhere that was convicted of selling heroin during his youth.

In other words, OP, a criminal conviction will not bar you from admissions or from being admitted to the bar in some states (there are a few states that will not accept a conviction though; Texas, for example, considers a felony conviction an automatic bar from being admitted to the state bar); however, it will be an uphill battle. You will need to show rehabilitation and display that some time has passed.

Good luck and good job on those numbers.

That is very good to know.

Good luck, OP. Be forthright and honest. I hope it works out for you.

OP: What is the statute of limitations for the charges of breaking & entering and the other property crime in your jurisdiction ? If it's two years, then you're lucky.

in2win wrote:Op I have some c&f issues which I am almost positive ruined much of my cycle except a few schools (t30 -40). The crimes were misdemeanors of a domestic nature ( not violent though I would never hit a woman) and I was given court supervision so no convictions. Take that for what its worth. I do believe if I waited another year and reapplied many schools wouldn't care about my c & f anymore. I also don't have anywhere near your numbers
How recent were these issues?
