Thank you TLS.
So, I am graduating in May from a public undergrad. I have a 3.92 and got a 163 in December after a month and a half of LSAT prep. I want to ultimately practice in FL and thought getting into UF was all needed. Thanks to the wisdom of those who continually post on here, I've decided to take a year off, work (in FL while living with family I have there), and retake. I was very ignorant about all the issues with law school before finding this site.
I figure best case i get a T14- worthy score, and worst case I get instate tuition and $$$ at UF. I don't know, kind of ranting but again, I'm grateful for this site.

I wish there were as many posts like this as there are of the typical "I can't retake because [insert poor excuse here], so help me justify going to school X" posts.

Congrats on a wise decision that somehow so many others fail to make. Best of luck on the retake.

I would sell multiple family members for your GPA. Nail that LSAT. I'm right there with you.

These are the type of comments that really motivated for me to retake. I got real lucky in that my UG isn't super hard, A+ grading, etcdproduct wrote:I would sell multiple family members for your GPA. Nail that LSAT. I'm right there with you.

Hell yeah! TLS convinced me to take this past year off and I'm actually taking one more and aiming to crush the LSAT this June. Good choice!

Re: Thank you TLS.
OP, I am in a similar situation with a slightly lower gpa but slightly higher lsat. For me, it only makes sense to retake if I want biglaw bc I have massive scholly within the T50. As a 0L, it's hard to see the justification for taking on insurmountable debt w/o a decent shot at biglaw. With that said, does one need to have significant WE to get biglaw, or more or less, just be above median at a T14 (with odds dramatically falling outside T14) at the time of OCI? I am worried about intensively studying for lsat, getting into an elite school and taking on a lot of money, and then striking out in OCI bc of lack of finance, techinical, etc. background. In other words, is it still worth it for me to retake?jk2011 wrote:I was almost one of those to disregard and jump right in. Re: Thank you TLS.
Congrats OP. TLS convinced me to make this decision almost 2 years ago and it was the best thing that could have happened to me. It's nice to see TLS help others succeed too.
WE is definitely not necessary. In fact most T14 kids don't have WE. Yes it is still worth the retake for you. It's also not necessary to be top 50% (it's basically a sliding scale like: top10% = 90% chance, top 20% = 80% chance, top 30% = 70% chance, etc, etc), but of course people with WE are at an advantage and people who interview well are as well.cloudhidden wrote:With that said, does one need to have significant WE to get biglaw, or more or less, just be above median at a T14 (with odds dramatically falling outside T14) at the time of OCI? Re: Thank you TLS.
That makes sense. I was thinking anyone capable of holding a meaningful conversation, and who finishes near the top of of a T14 would be a shoo-in. I consider myself at least a competant interviewee. I just want to have some confidence that this significant of a decision would be worth undertaking. For me that means setting my sights on T14 and knowing that I have a good shot at biglaw even at median and w/o great "softs."bk187 wrote:Congrats OP.
