Sending LOCIs to multiple schools

Post by butifuldisastr » Fri Mar 02, 2012 2:56 am

Wanted to get opinions on this.

If I am equally interested in attending 2-3 schools, and I am either waitlisted or it has been a long time since my app has been complete/gone under review, is it bad to write LOCIs to these various schools stating my strong desire to attend? In the letters I intend to state why the school is a great fit and what I could bring to that school. I thought about additionally stating that I would gladly put down a seat deposit if admitted, but I feel this is bad form to write to 2-3 different schools. These are all reach schools, so I don't know the chance of actually being offered a seat, but still...opinions on what to do?

Just send one letter to my single top choice, or is it ok to send letters to several schools?

It's alright to send a letter to more than one school; it's actually quite common. While nothing would probably come of it, I wouldn't tell more than one school that they're your top choice. Be honest, demonstrate that you've looked into the programs the school has to offer, and let them know that you'd be very interested in attending should you be accepted. Pick one that is your top choice and let them know.
