Should I apply for Needs Based Aid?

Post by msblaw89 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 10:20 am

I will probably take this down after I get a good numbers of responses.

I was wondering if it would be of any benefit to apply for needs based aid. My parents combined income is ~100k and I am an only child with no real job . Anyone in this situation or have any advice? Thanks

With that kind of income, it couldn't hurt, although very few schools (except the top 3 - 6) actually offer any need based aid.

It's probably worth applying until your parents are making 250k a year or so. Law school is expensive as hell; tuition would still eat up a fifth of their pre-tax income.

I'm in a pretty similar position (only child, no job, parents make a little more but not that much more). I'm going to apply, but I think it probably depends on the individual school as to whether or not you get anything. Either way, it can't hurt to try.

I know a school like NW that uses need access does not use parents info for scholarship determination (their scholarships use both need and merit). Probably many other schools like it, so it wouldnt hurt to try

Every student is poor and your parents make nearly double the median household income in America. I guess its worth it to apply, but few people will play a violin for you.
