Using old letters of recommendation.

Post by LuckySpurs » Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:07 pm

Before leaving undergrad, I had two professors write letters of recommendation. I thought I would apply to law school in 2010; instead, I decided to do a fellowship. I am having a hard time contacting my professors (they are no longer with my undergrad institution). Their letters are already in the LSAC system. If I cannot get updated copies, would it be wrong to submit letters that are two years old with my applications. The letters from my employers will be recent and are very strong.

I'm confused, did your employers already write letters? I'm planning on using my professors' LORs next year as well.

Sorry...they are working on them now. They are both strong writers so I'm not too worried about the letters from fellowships/current employers. I was worried that having older letter would look bad the admission committees.

as long as they aren't more than a couple years old you should be just fine

Yeah, I'd think that's fine to include your professors' letters. Sending three LORs is generally fine if you want to throw in an employer LOR as well (though above seems to be discouraged).

How much do LOR's really matter if you have the numbers anyway?
