TLS has lost its collective mind
I'll keep the details brief because I don't want to out anyone. Recently I noticed people were posting in a " XX Law School Class of 2013" thread. This particular law school is one of the 15 or so currently being sued for fraud by some of it's former students. I asked the question why these people were matriculating and excited about forking over 200k to an institution which is being sued for fraud by people who did the exact same thing only a couple years earlier. No sooner had I hit "submit" then I was issued a board warning by a moderator for "trolling".
There is a good chance at least one of the people posting in that thread will be 200k in debt with no job or prospects for getting one. They are the very ones who need to know all the facts, yet TLS is shutting down debate presumably in order to promote "civility".
Law school is truly turning to a gi-ant scam being perpetrated on the younger generation. Consider the post on professor Campos' blog today -
(inside thelawschoolscam.blogspot.com)
A student with a 147 LSAT and a 2.5 GPA applied to several 4th tier schools, and was accepted within a DAY into one of them, and the next day after that into the others. The implications of this should be obvious to anyone, but I will spell it out anyway. As word of the scam gets out, the more the quality of the applicant pool decreases and the more law schools become desperate to keep the student loan spigot primed and flowing. As the professor points out, a 147 score puts her in the BOTTOM 33 % of all test takers and her GPA puts her God knows where. How can this person possibly turn into a competant lawyer? Of course this is a moot point for the law school, since they will be getting their $$ anyway. God help you all.

Mtal, maybe what you're forgetting is, often times it isn't the message that matters as much as the delivery. How it is said, the context of how it is said, etc. all affect how people respond and react to it. Food for thought...
Bit ironic here when I say to you...don't be a law student.

Re: TLS has lost its collective mind
Is this supposed to be relevant to anyone who doesn't have a 147 and 2.5?

Re: TLS has lost its collective mind
Mtal's posts haven't dissuaded me from going to law school, but his words have strengthened my resolve about the necessity of a JD from a top-ranked institution (or a full ride from a school that is near the top).

No prospective students responded to you over there so you tried again here? Got it.

They responded. It was I who was not allowed to respond back.Grizz wrote:No prospective students responded to you over there so you tried again here? Got it.

But why do you care if they go for a 1/200 chance at something?

This schtick gets old. People are aware of the downfalls of law school of they are on this board unless they are the functional equivalent of a carrot. They are certainly informed of it in many "what are my chances" threads.
But to drop in unbidden into a "Class of" thread for a school you don't go to or have connection to is pretty shitty. Those are specific threads for attendees of those schools to talk about their particular class and teachers, school life, etc. There are plenty of other places to troll on the boards.

Mtal, tact is the ability to make a point without making an enemy. This should be relevant to your interests.

Is it trolling to make potential applicants aware of the fact that their school is being sued for fraud?kalvano wrote:This schtick gets old. You think I care about making enemies? I am equally as proud of having enemies as I am of having friends. Both of them define me.Mal Reynolds wrote:Mtal, tact is the ability to make a point without making an enemy. This should be relevant to your interests.

To OP:
You "edited" the original post and still made several grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors. There are TLSers who love to correct people. Don't give them an excuse to ridicule. Occasional typos, misspellings and syntax errors, etc. are tolerable; we all make them online no matter how meticulous we are, but...

It's just the wrong place to do it. Look into becoming a mentor for someone who is actually underprivileged if this is what you want. If you want to help people, just volunteer. If anything, it's something on your resume.MTal wrote: Is it trolling to make potential applicants aware of the fact that their school is being sued for fraud?
Most of the people who regularly go on here are quitting before they pay 30k/yr at a school outside of the T50.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
