Plug brothers at the same law school?
Both of my brothers are current J.D. students at my dream law school. It's top 5, and with my splitter stats (3.4 GPA and 173 LSAT) I need any boost I can get. The question is whether it looks bad to plug them on my personal statement, if I should just mention it were it asks in the app and leave it at that. If I mention it in the ps it wouldn't be blatant. Something along the lines of "I look forward to joining both my brothers at X Law next year and..."
One brother thinks I should do it. The other thinks it looks like I'm to play off their accomplishments in a nepotistic way. Any one have a similar situation, or any thoughts in general? All help much appreciated, thanks.

I don't think it sounds nepotistic. I sounds more like why x.

i think you could plug it, but i wouldn't say it the way you are thinking about doing it. i would add a paragraph into your statement talking about why columbia/nyu/chicago is your favorite. talk about how you have always loved the school for x/y/z reasons, and your brothers have really enjoyed their experiences there as well. as such, it gives you even more confidence that this school is the right fit for you.
i think the way you are saying it comes across as sounding entitled.

+1. I think it's pretty awkward to mention it at all, but if you must mention them, do it that way.rapstar wrote:i think you could plug it, but i wouldn't say it the way you are thinking about doing it. i would add a paragraph into your statement talking about why columbia/nyu/chicago is your favorite. talk about how you have always loved the school for x/y/z reasons, and your brothers have really enjoyed their experiences there as well. as such, it gives you even more confidence that this school is the right fit for you.

I think it makes an excellent Why Essay. If both of your brothers have loved it there, just talk about what they've told you, why they're enthusiastic, and why that makes it enthusiastic. I mean how many JD students have first hand knowledge about the schools? At least you know a lot more about the particulars there than any of us do. Talk about the professors they've loved, etc.

Don't CCN have spaces in the app where you mention connections/relatives who attend/graduated from the school? I'd put it there and leave the PS/Why X for stronger reasons; whatever boost it will give you, it will give you there.

What could be a stronger reason for Why X than two siblings attending and the things you've learned about X school because of it?Perdevise wrote:Don't CCN have spaces in the app where you mention connections/relatives who attend/graduated from the school? I think TITCR. Don't just plug them with no explanation. Having family nearby/going through the same experience is a great "Why CCN".rapstar wrote:i think you could plug it, but i wouldn't say it the way you are thinking about doing it. i would add a paragraph into your statement talking about why columbia/nyu/chicago is your favorite. talk about how you have always loved the school for x/y/z reasons, and your brothers have really enjoyed their experiences there as well. as such, it gives you even more confidence that this school is the right fit for you.

I wouldn't mention the sweet outline you're hoping to inherit FWIW.
