Visiting Student Question

Post by redbullyes » Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:26 pm

I am currently a 2L at a low ranking law school and want to do my 3L year as a visiting student at another school because my family is moving out of state.

I am afraid that my school will not allow me to become a visiting student at the new school. I dont know why I just have a feeling they will not be as accommodating and want to keep me here. My school has a probation policy and love to kick out students. They are also for profit.

My family is moving to another state and I want to be close to them and that is the reason for wanting visiting student status. However I will want to practice in the state I currently am located.

Concerns:
1. my school wants my money and wont let me visit another school.
2. my school will not let me visit because they will claim that my new school does not offer a class that is a requirement at my current school.
3. my grades are mediocre, but i understand that is not a huge factor.

Anyone in a similar situation who can provide me some guidance?

Talk with someone at your school who handles these requests (DoS) - they'll know all this information a lot better than we will, especially since we don't know which school you're currently attending.

Often visiting students pay tuition to their home school if there is an established program between the schools. If so, your concerns may be unwarranted. The bigger concern may be whether or not your target school will accept you as a visiting student.

I am not sure if there is an established relationship between my current school and target school.
I will let you guys know what ends up happening. I have a meeting with the dean soon.
