How many schools...
How many schools do applicants typically apply to? I'm a first year applicant and I was just curious about this topic.
How many is everyone else applying to? Thanks.

Re: How many schools...
19 for me. A couple reaches, mostly targets, semi-safeties and total safeties. With fee waivers applying to a bunch of schools is totally feasible. I only paid for four of the nineteen.clarified_butter wrote:How many schools do applicants typically apply to? I'm a first year applicant and I was just curious about this topic. I plan on applying to 20 schools...the list is going to be a mix for me.

I applied to 18. I probably wouldn't have applied to a lot of them, but I got 9 fee waivers.

10- basically all the schools I think I'd be happy to attend.

5, but I'm not willing to leave a fairly small radius from home.

8, but my numbers have historically produced fairly consistent results and I ED'd.
If you're an extreme splitter or URM, then 15+ seems credited, but for someone with a fairly predictable cycle 8-12 seems about right

Re: How many schools...
I also had fee waivers. It would have been so costly without them!
P.S. I just attached a poll to this thread too.

18, but with fee waivers only paying for 4 of them. I probably didn't need to apply to that many, but I'm extremely debt-averse and trying to maximize my chances for decent scholarships.

Of my five, all were waivers. I'd have done 2 without.

Re: How many schools...
i've applied to 5 so far. i would have applied to 3 or 4 more, but i got into my safety (which was odd, it was my first acceptance and they're usually pretty slow with admissions decisions...ANYWAY) so the extra 3/4 super safeties weren't necessary ;]

15, all with waivers. I gt my first acceptance relatively early and was able to cut some safeties from my list.

. . . 23 . . . so embarrassing. Although, all of them are fee waivers except one.

Don't be embarrassed. You're a super strong candidate. You're just casting a wide net because you have a lot of options and can afford to be open.thelawschoolproject wrote:. . . 23 . . . so embarrassing. Although, all of them are fee waivers except one.

Re: How many schools...
So far I'm at 16 (thankful for few waivers) and only paid for one application. Pretty spread out applications with reaches, targets then safeties. Hoping for something good this holiday season.

That's a good thing...you didn't have to pay for 22 schools...imagine how costly that could have been!

Applied to 18, influenced by fee waivers - will probably apply to four more before the end of the year

Applied to 16 - received three fee waivers. My parents funded the cost - no time to make your target small, right?

17 for me. Fee waivers to all but 4, figured why not see if I can work some scholarship magic

Does anyone else think the poll looks like it is flipping TLS the bird?
