Re: EDing to Columbia vs. NYU?
Without looking at any empirical data, I would say that an ED to NYU would be more wise than an ED to CLS.

I have no idea how EDing factors in here, but you're north of the 25th on both counts compared with this year's 1Ls at NYU, who had 170/174 and 3.57/3.85 if I remember correctly (which I very well may not). So a significant chunk of people got in with scores worse than yours - I'd assume they weren't all ED.lawschool89 wrote:I'm currently deciding whether I should ED to either Columbia or NYU, and wanted to get your guys' opinion. I have a 171, 3.66 GPA and would be VERY happy going to either. Do you think it would be smarter to ED to one over the other? As in, should I maybe ED to NYU because I would have a better shot of getting in than Columbia? Or do you think both would be about the same? I'm not really counting on getting into either but I figure EDing wouldn't hurt. Thanks in advance!

It's pretty close to impossible for a non-urm to get in without at least one number at or above the median. OP is just shy on both counts.ahduth wrote:I have no idea how EDing factors in here, but you're north of the 25th on both counts compared with this year's 1Ls at NYU, who had 170/174 and 3.57/3.85 if I remember correctly (which I very well may not). What're the medians? They never told us.Tiago Splitter wrote:It's pretty close to impossible for a non-urm to get in without at least one number at or above the median. Re: EDing to Columbia vs. NYU?
Thank you guys so much for your input!
ahduth- you're spot on about the 25-75 stats. I looked and couldn't find the reported medians either.
tiago splitter- yeah I'm really not counting on too much. From what I've seen here maybe it would be best to ED to NYU even though it'll probably be a long shot? I'm not a URM (asian-american), I have relatively strong softs but nothing outstanding that would really set me apart. I guess there's nothing much to do but keep my fingers crossed?
Thanks again!

NYU and it's not even close. You don't have any shot at Columbia, but there is an outside shot at NYU. Possible that the median slipped this year, they were admitting a lot of 172+ LSAT people at the end of last cycle (presumably because they were worried about the median dropping).

thanks for telling it straight. my (realistic) dream school is georgetown, so i'm really applying to NYU/Columbia/UChicago/UPenn just as a shot in the dark kinda thing (i thought the lightbulb might be appropriate there somehow...)bdubs wrote:NYU and it's not even close.
