Hello everyone-
Army pilot - 3.3 GPA / 160 LSAT
All of my applications are submitted, because I wanted to take advantage of rolling admissions. But I am deploying to Afghanistan in mid-late November.
For those of you who cannot identify with deployments, how would you approach a tremendous boost to your resume mid-cycle (ie, significant promotion, published a series of articles, etc)?
Broadly: How do you think I should proceed?
Specifically:
(1) I intend to send an updated resume about the time that I leave that will include my new position (fairly impressive position, if I may say so myself). Good idea, I'd presume?
(2) I used my parents address as my address, despite the fact that Im damn near 30 years old, because I will be deployed for 99% of the cycle. Do you think that I should request schools email me decisions vice snail mail? My impression is that most schools use email anyhow, but would it hurt? Of course, I'd only request this of schools that specifically have a policy of snail-mail. But, regardless, good idea? Im thinking that it's not really necessary, but it makes me nervous that my mom will lose the mail or something crazy like that. At the same time, there's a high potential to go stir crazy, knowing that it's going to someone else's mail box. Less control.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Carl

Re: Update Application for Afghanistan Deployment???
As someone who can identify with deployments:
I would say that to update a resume with something that you will do vice something you have done is a bit much. The military experience boost that might be seen in applications is a consequence of demonstrating your value as a unique member of a law schools incoming class.
I have never heard of a stellar resume as a deciding factor for admissions. I am also assuming you have never deployed. If you really want to make the most of your deployment as an admission factor, use it in your PS.

Carlton, are you Active duty/applying to FLEP? I was wondering how that worked for people who apply to FLEP and law schools while in Afghanistan, as I may be doing that next year. All of my applications are submitted, because I wanted to take advantage of rolling admissions. But I am deploying to Afghanistan in mid-late November.
Also, maybe you could notify the schools you applied to via an email saying hey, I'm deploying so my contact info changed, send stuff to my mom temporarily 'til I get back from Afghanistan...(obviously worded better, lol) Change of address, I assume, would be a legitimate reason to contact admissions, plus then they'll put two and two together about you getting more work experience.

Re: Update Application for Afghanistan Deployment???
I contacted schools as I was on the way home from Iraq during Christmas. Schools just e-mailed me my stuff until the deadline I gave them. Was no problem at all.sendmeonmyway wrote:Carlton, are you Active duty/applying to FLEP?
