Resume Question

Post by TripleEspresso » Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:10 am

I owned a somewhat successful online business through eBay during my undergraduate years, would that be acceptable or recommended to put on my resume?

I would include it if you can show that it consisted of more than just listing items on an auction site.

If it was truly a "somewhat successful business," then it might have involved managing or organizing your inventory of items, interacting with customers, meeting deadlines, maintaining financial records, etc.

Those are valuable skills (not dissimilar from those that are acquired in more traditional work), and the fact that you launched a business venture as an undergrad shows that you've got some entrepreneurial spirit.

If you're now several years out of undergrad, then it's probably less important: It might take up space that could be more valuably used to describe other (read: more impressive) work or experiences.

But, as long as you have the room for it, I would put it in there.
