9 point increase--addendum necesary? Forum

so my target school doesnt say anything about including an explanation for a score increase. i already submitted my application, but now i am worried that they will wonder about the increase. should i call admissions, and ask if they want one (and then have to send it in and wait until they add it on my app) or just leave it?

i dont have a particularly good reason for the increase--just personal stuff going on the first time i took it.

You don't have a good reason to write an addendum so don't

im worried they'll wonder about the discrepancy and average the scores or something...you think they'll take the higher one?

Not taking the higher one is a self-defeating practice. I went up 12 points and did not write an addendum. They'll figure it out.

Depends on the school. Most care a lot more about the higher one.

Just make sure your school doesn't require it-- some schools require an addendum for a 5+ point increase.

My theory is, if you have a big jump like that it pretty much explains itself. I feel like the admissions people already have to read a LOT of essays, and the last thing they want is something else to read when they can basically figure out that you did something major to improve, or there was something weird with your first test. Basically I'm relying on the admissions people being smart enough to figure it out, and hope that they appreciate the simplicity of no addendum.
