Application asks about parents' education?

For Georgetown, it's optional to put down your parents' names/occupations/education. I'd rather not answer it-- will this be detrimental to my app? Thanks!

I don't think it's detrimental. I think the only reason they have it is so they can get an idea of your background (in a positive way). So if your parents never graduated high school but you nevertheless graduated from harvard and are applying to georgetown, that would probably be seen as a plus.

Also so they can identify legacies, or see if you come from a family of lawyers.

If your parents either (1) went to Georgetown, or (2) never graduated college, put it down. Otherwise, do whatever you want but it probably won't help or hurt either way.

It's mostly just for demographics, not much for admissions.
