Stanford and Foreign Transcript Question

Post by MumofCad » Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:18 pm

Anyone with Stanford application experience, specifically with a study abroad program? Got a note that they were trying to process my application, but wanted to see a transcript that LSAC didn't request from a foreign institution. The foreign institution though was through an American-accredited UG school's study abroad program. LSAC required the American-UG transcript and it is on my LSAC report with all the relevant courses/grades. Do they really need a duplicate from the foreign institution? This is going to be a huge headache if so that will most likely require translation from Arabic. Since LSAC didn't even have the school in the drop down menu list, I fear for my ability to obtain a transcript from the school. It was just a language program.

I studied abroad in the middle east one summer (less than 9 credits). Stanford required it even though LSAC didn't, and was clearly holding my application until they received it (which took approximately an extra month). I'd give them a call if it's going to be a herculean effort, though.

Thanks!

For some reason, they decided that they didn't actually need mine. Thought I should post for future applicants.

I responded to their initial request by explaining that it was a summer study abroad course that was taken through a US institution, which did in fact issue a grade. LSAC and thus my report had that US transcript on it (not my regular UG institution, another one).

Their reply basically just said that would be sufficient and my file is now complete.

I think the difference might be if your grades show up at "T" or as an actual grade of some sort, whether "A-F" or "P." I'm not sure if I actually received a letter grade from the language course or not, but it was at least P/F and was worth 2 semesters of language credit.
