Question

Post by Susan_Walid » Thu Sep 15, 2011 3:36 pm

Sorry if this is obvious, and annoying to some of you. But when applying...are schools able to see other schools you have applied to? I'm worried about not being admitted to schools I have a good chance at because their admissions committee might not think I will attend, and want to preserve their matriculation stats...Is it wiser to apply to just one set of regional schools? I'm applying to most of the schools ranked 40-70...will this look bad?

As best I know, they can't see what other schools you apply to. If anyone has information to the contrary, though, please share!

However, most schools will ask you to list the other schools you're applying to.

I don't think they can see it, or they wouldn't ask. A lot of them do ask though.

Some people have written a fair amount about only applying to schools you would be happy to attend. You may want to consider paring down how many schools you are applying to if you are worried about the list being too big. Instead of 20-30 schools, try something like 10-15. I don't think you'll have a lot to worry about if the schools that you apply to are somewhat reasonable for your numbers.

They can see if they ask.
