GPA Addendum - Really low freshman GPA

Post by sashimi01 » Sat Sep 10, 2011 9:15 am

Would I need to explain my ridiculously low GPA my first year in college? Or would they take it as typical or somewhat understandable?

This is my gpa trend

Freshman 2.6
Sophomore 3.4
Junior 3.9
Senior 3.8

Thanks in advance everyone!

The only reason you ever include a GPA addendum is if you have an actual reason. Ask yourself if there was any legitimate reason beyond you being an immature freshman. If yes, then write one.

I disagree, I think a lack of gpa addendum may not be a deal breaker but your app could have an 'empty' feeling if it isn't there when ideally it should be. I've seen gpa addendum's written about motivation and direction which tied in to the upward grade trend. What good is a costly arrest expungement if you have to list all arrest on your app? It shows you care.

Eh, I would include one. If you don't have a "real reason", I'd make it something like this:

I had the exact same situation when I applied except that my freshman GPA was because of a very tough major (which I switched out of). It might help a little, it might not, but I doubt it will hurt you. The worst that will happen is that they disregard it and look at your cumulative GPA--which is what will most definitely happen if you don't right an addendum.
