ED question
Hey everyone Im not much of a poster on here but I have used TLS to gain a huge wealth of knowledge so thanks everyone as Im sure Ive read your stuff. Im a senior in undergrad headed to law school next year and my stats are 3.3 and 166. Ive been considering the idea of EDing to NDLS because ultimately I believe I will end up in the Cleveland market since Ive been lucky enough to work in the mailroom at two NLJ firms over the summers of undergrad there and my personal network is rooted mostly in there and a little in columbus. If I dont ED to NDLS Ill likely do it to some school I have no shot at in the t14 in hopes of somehow slipping through the cracks. Im just wondering if given my numbers this would be a bad idea (EDing to NDLS) since I might get in anyways and have a shot at negotiating aid. I was also thinking of applying to bloomington just to grab their 120k scholly that they seem to give everyone over 166 and then using that as leverage. Any input would be really helpful thanks!

Re: ED question
Hard to believe you'd get into NDLS RD with those numbers. ED might give you some shot, but it's far from a guarantee. I'd spend a lot of time researching whether or not you can handle sticker price at Notre Dame.

Re: ED question
Thanks for the advice and yeah I think best case scenario I have about a 1/3 shot at getting in RD. Sticker is feasible only because based on the money Ive saved up and with family help Ill only be taking out loans for tuition so total debt at graduation should be ~130k

Re: ED question
130K is still 9K in interest right off the bat.
Not sure where you get the 1/3rd number. I don't see any white people getting into NDLS with those numbers in the past two cycles. A couple snuck through in 2008-2009.

Re: ED question
I remember someone on TLS saying that they received a large scholly from IUB but that other schools wouldn't negotiate with them based on it. Just something to kick around.

Re: ED question
I'd consider Ohio State pretty strongly with those numbers and your goals.

Re: ED question
Yeah OSU is definitely on the list of places Im applying to Ive just always loved ND and kind of jumped at the shot. the 1/3 number came from talking to a ND counselor who said 6/21 people got accepted with similar numbers last year although she didnt distinguish URM status so sounds like your probably more right then me. And thanks for the tip on IUB, kind of a buzzkill but I kind of figured that would be too easy to use against other schools

Re: ED question
I mean, you could still try. Best case scenario is someone like ND or OSU does indeed negotiate up based on the IUB deal, and worst case scenario is you spent 70 dollars in application fees to still get a chance to go to a more or less decent law school for very little cost. Whatever you decide...

Re: ED question
I wouldnt waste an ED on t-14. I think NDLS would be a good ED choice for you.
Best of luck.

Re: ED question
Joe Fish- yeah I think Ill still spend the money to get the scholly and I guess it cant hurt to ask the admin office about helping me out with some aid.
Kring- thanks for the reassurance thats kind of the same idea I had
Also I was wondering how much of a difference in aid there usually is if you ED vs Non-ED. Again since Im already a fringe at ND or would be an outlier at any top 20 I got lucky enough to slide in at I probably wouldnt qualify for much aid but lets say I did slide in on the RD would I get that much more money than if I ED'd. Thanks again for all the help

Re: ED question
At Notre Dame? Probably no difference in aid. If you really want NDLS ED is really your only bet, and it's not as if you are giving up money there.
