How high do you think law school tuition will reach?

Post by notaznguy » Wed Aug 31, 2011 4:00 am

It's pretty shocking to see how much tuition has increased in the past 5 years. I'm going to use UC Davis as an example because I recently looked them up on Law School Numbers.

In 2006-2007, UC Davis' tuition was ~24,000 per year.

In 2011-2012, UC Davis' tuition is ~46,000 per year.

In the past 5 years, UC Davis' tuition has increased by ~4,400 a year. Pretty crazy. If this tuition increase were to increase at a constant and consistent rate, it would be ~68,000 by 2016-2017.

I wonder if it would ever reach $100,000 per year. I bet you thousands of people would still go

I'll wager that at least one school will break $70,000-$80,000 by 2020 unless the federal government backs out out of the higher education market (re: guaranteeing student loans).

The price increases were probably a result of everyone flocking to law school due to the "golden age of the attorney." Since we are now living in the "golden age of the unemployed," I'm sure the price increases will stop, if not rescind. But who knows, maybe the unemployment rates will cause more and more people to continue to seek out higher education, thereby continuing the increase in tuition. Time will tell.

I'm hoping to go in-state. I just can't justify dropping 40gs a year on law school. Not with the dearth of jobs.
