What is the highest LSAT you would consider retaking?
Does it ever make sense to retake over a 170? if so when?

If I'd scored a 171 or lower, I was prepared to retake.

I'd say if you felt like you significantly underperformed your PT's/didn't prepare very thoroughly to begin with + feel like increasing your LSAT score could get you in better position to get into your target schools (i.e. going from 171=>174 would get you over every median whereas 174-177 seems less useful) then you should consider it.

That should really depend on the goals of the individual and that invidual's confidence that he/she will improve his/her score enough to make a discernable difference in the profile (i.e., 5 points or more). That having been said, anyone good enough to get a 170 or higher should be smart enough and well-educated enough to improve other parts of his/her profile in a way that makes the profile more attractive. Retaking at that point seems a bit drastic.
I don't care who you are or what the rest of your profile looks like, a 170 should be good enough for any student to stand pat, shore up the rest of the profile (ex. essays, WE or community service) and put one's best foot forward.

Schools likely give applications a score which they calculate from GPA and the LSAT. The higher your LSAT, the higher your score would be.PDaddy wrote:That should really depend on the goals of the individual and that invidual's confidence that he/she will improve his/her score enough to make a discernable difference in the profile (i.e., 5 points or more). This is absolutely awful analysis. Indefensible.PDaddy wrote:I don't care who you are or what the rest of your profile looks like, a 170 should be good enough for any student to stand pat, shore up the rest of the profile (ex. essays, WE or community service) and put one's best foot forward.

Um, when the median of the school you're applying to is higher than that? Or when your GPA is low and you need to make up for it?jillbill wrote:Does it ever make sense to retake over a 170? if so when?
I'm happy with the school I've chosen, but I kind of wish I'd retaken my 171.

Re: What is the highest LSAT you would consider retaking?
Depends on where you want to go to school and your PT range.
If you're gunning for the best school possible, basically nothing short of perfection.
If you want to go to the best school in your region, whatever LSAT will get you in with the kind of cash you want.
If youre range is something like 160-165, and you snag a 167 on the real thing, a retake may not pay off.

Re: What is the highest LSAT you would consider retaking?
Very subjective. Depends upon individual goals. Assuming that one's target schools are all within the top 6 ranked law schools, then a 174 should not call for a retake since a high GPA & a great application are needed anyway. (Based on my understanding that the highest law school median is a 173.)

Re: What is the highest LSAT you would consider retaking?
I''m retaking a 168 and 169. I'm applying ED this cycle though, so if I get into the school I want, regardless of how low of a 17X it is, I won't retake. If I get a 17X and don't get into the school I want, on the other hand...

Re: What is the highest LSAT you would consider retaking?
Retook a 172 because I was PTing significantly higher and got a 176. Would not do it again. It put my apps on hold, and with my low gpa, a 172 is 75th or better at any school I had a shot at anyway.
