Diversity Statement?

Post by clarawater » Sun Jul 17, 2011 11:07 pm

I'm sure this has already been answered somewhere on here, but I just thought I'd get some recent, clear opinions.

If you are just an average Jane and don't really have anything specific that could go in a Diversity Statement, is it fine to not do one? Or is it looked upon better by Admissions if you find something really unique about you to highlight in such a statement?

its fine to not do one. you probably don't want to do one unless you actually add some level of diversity to the class (how you'd imagine an adcom would define diversity)

Most people don't do one. It's generally only done if you are a minority or dealt with especially difficult socioeconomic circumstances.
