What to have recommenders include in LOR?

Post by bmp » Mon Jun 27, 2011 2:07 pm

My supervisor is one person who will be writing me a letter of rec. She is asking me what I would like her to include in the letter (strengths). She wants to write it strictly from a standpoint of her knowing me well and not discuss anything on my resume.
I am interested in public interest law but don't know if the letter should even go into that? Any advice. I wrote some things down like: motivated.. but it sounds so cliche. Any advice?

Thank you!

There are resources online to help people write recommendation letters. If she doesn't want to specifically talk about anything on your resume, you might ask her to compare you to other employees she's worked with or relate an anecdote that illustrates the qualities you want to emphasize.
