Help with letter for a class withrdaw

Post by fixxion » Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:53 am

Ok so I have two classes from 2009 that I started at a community college during the summer gap of my University studies. After the first couple of weeks a teacher from my University offered me an internship and I decided to take it. In all of the excitement and 60 hour work weeks I completely spaced and didn't drop the classes in time. These two F's are killing my gpa by a .1. It's dropping me from a 3.5 to a 3.4. Below is the short statement I am sending with the application to change the grades to a W.
What do you guys think? Any advice is most welcome.

"I am in the process of applying to law schools for the Fall 2012 admission cycle and have two classes from (X COMMUNITY COLLEGE) that are greatly hurting my chances. I do not have any excuses regarding my failure to drop the classes on time, but I did stop attending them before the drop deadline. I know it is my fault and there may be nothing you can do to help me. I am a rising senior at (X UNIVERSITY) and have a current GPA of 3.72. If there is any way to look back at the attendance records for these two courses and verify that I did not earn F letter grades i would be very appreciative. I categorize myself as a hard working and diligent student and have never received an F before as you can see from my attached transcripts. Thank you for your consideration."

Please help. Getting these grades changed would mean a world of difference and give me the chance to get my gpa to 3.65 after my senior year in case this cycle dosn't go well.

You ask an interesting question. Explaining an aberration in grades lends itself to an addenda. Your goal is to explain your weak grades and to persuade AdCom that your transcript is not an accurate reflection of your capabilities. This addendum should emphasize all the terrific skills and life lessons you learned in your internship, and how they are going to make you a better law student and lawyer. AdCom wants to know that if you decide to take a job during law school, you will be able to keep your grades up while you juggle different commitments. Hope this helps.

Don't even worry. I'm unemployed now, I'll be there in no time.
