Does alum status help at all? Forum

Hello all,

I'm currently finishing my Ph.D. at Duke, and was planning on applying to Duke Law when I finish (hopefully within a year). Would the fact that I'd be a Duke alum help with admissions at all, or this is not a relevant factor?

My stats:
LSAT: 175
UGPA: 3.75 (magna with honors at top 30 school)
GGPA: 3.8

You will be fine with those numbers. Apply higher unless you're dead-set on Duke.

I'd honestly recommend writing a really serious "Why Duke" to avoid getting YP'd.

This or they may wait list you. Honestly, you're basically a lock everywhere except HYS but with the GPA near 25th and an LSAT near 75th at HLS and SLS and a PhD, you should have a shot. Then again admissions at HYS is kind of a crapshoot. But you should be in at Duke with $$$.

Can't the OP just do Priority Track and not have to worry about YP?

Thanks for the comments. Duke is at the top of my list due to location (own a home here, etc). Acceptance at HYS will complicate my decision making process considerably. In the event that HYS doesn't happen, I would prefer Duke.

It's totally moot with those numbers. You are likely in unless they YP you or your application is a shit show.
