Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
By 10+, the poster meant 11 (according to LSN).
Of the 11 applicants accepted to HLS w/ sub-3.7 GPAs: 9 were URMS (look at the profiles; one does not indicate outwardly but says so in profile); the other two have been out of undergrad for 5-9 years (one had a 179 LSAT and went to HYP undergrad and the other had a 177 LSAT)
I would still stand to say that 3.7 is a floor, especially for non-URM applicants.

Reach: GWU
Goal: American U (my first choice; I'm applying there under Early Decision)

GPA is 3.70, won't know what my LSAT score is until the June 2011 scores are released. My PTs put me between 160 and 165, though.
Softs: URM (LGBTQ, Romani), research assistantship, internship at my local domestic violence shelter (I worked with the legal advocates), etc.

What the shit? Look up the definition of URM as it pertains to law school admissions.psychedeliachic wrote:Reach: GWU

I'll give you the fact that being LGBTQ might not make me an URM, but I would argue that being Romani probably would. Unfortunately, since so few people actually know what Romani(es) is/are, you're probably right.

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
No you just don't understand how URM works. It doesn't matter what the number of people from a given race/ethnicity is at a given school or LS in general. You're not URM.psychedeliachic wrote:chimp wrote:What the shit? Look up the definition of URM as it pertains to law school admissions.psychedeliachic wrote:Reach: GWU

Wow lol you're all such assholes. You could've just explained to him/her what URM means instead of giving those bitchy replies.

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
Guess I'll do this too.
GPA: 3.57 (I expect ~3.5 LSDAS)
LSAT: Won't know 'til October, but I'm waiting a cycle if I end up under a 170
Reaches: NYU (ED)/UMich/Penn/Northwestern
Targets: Duke/Cornell/Georgetown
Safeties: BU/BC
Softs: RA, internship with juvenile court, WE (during undergrad)
PS: Life experiences + WE with juveniles + internship = decision to pursue PI/child advocacy
Good luck to everyone! Can't wait to see how this cycle plays out.

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
Reach: Michigan, Boalt
Target: Notre Dame, U-Washington
Safety: Oregon State
GPA is a high 3.8, I haven't taken the LSAT yet (taking it in October) but my PTs so far range from high 150s to high 160s (based on concentration, tiredness, whether I worked that day etc).
As for my PS I have no idea what to write about yet.

And glad someone else is completely confused about their personal statement. Or, well, completely at a loss for words.
I feel like I should have a draft written by July, not least because one of my recommenders wants to read my PS before he writes me a letter. Eeek.

Is anyone else ITT excited to finally be able make a legitimate "what are my chances" thread when June scores come out?

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
I've been studying the powerscore LR and LG bibles plus some PT books for about a month, and I'm taking a Powerscore class that starts in July. I haven't even started thinking about my PS, Ive been completely focused on the LSAT. I have a few somewhat interesting experiences (mission trip to Honduras, spent a month in India) thaty I could maybe write about but I don't know how I could relate any of them to law school.Hedwig wrote:How long have you been studying for the LSAT?Sounder89 wrote:Reach: Michigan, Boalt

I think a rough (italicized for emphasis) draft by July is a great goal, but I would say don't sweat it if you dont get to it til August

You may not be URM per se, but you'll almost certainly get a boost if you write a diversity statement. Search around. I've seen a couple of threads from other gypsies on here.paulinaporizkova wrote:not URM brahpsychedeliachic wrote:Reach: GWU

GPA:~3.4-3.5 depending
LSAT:taking in OCT
Favorite Reach School:Cornell
Favorite Target School:GULS
Favorite Safety School:BC
URM(puerto rican/caucasian)
In ten words or less, what you plan to put in your personal statement: Talk about growth through architecture school and how living in Japan and meeting lawyers that work with architecture firms there had a huge impact on me wanting to pursue law.
Hopes and dreams: Crack top 25 with $
any thoughts?

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
GPA: 3.97
LSAT: Still waiting on June 2011 test...grrr. Expecting anywhere in the 168-173 range based on PTs and my gut feeling after the test.
PS: family relationships developing passion for advocacy
Reaches: Duke, UVA
Targets: W&M, GW, Vandy
Safeties: Wake Forest, W&L, Alabama, UNC - anything less than this and I'm sitting out a cycle to up my game
