Just got a C in a class......How screwed?

Post by AAttiKKus » Fri May 06, 2011 12:28 pm

Hey all.

Just found out I'll be making a C in Stats this semester. Yay.

I'm just a sophomore so I still have ~3 semesters left of what should be fairly easy grades, and as long as I pull out As in my remaining two classes this semester, I should stay right at a 3.8 for now. I took Stats to fulfill a BS college curriculum requirement for quant stuff, and the teacher was just terrible.

So, despite the high overall GPA (assume I graduate magna), how effing terrible does that C look on my transcript? I was planning on shooting for HYS soooo.....yeahh......-_-

No one looks at your transcript, only at the LSAC GPA.

Come back when you have an LSAT score.

You sure? Not even HYS looks at the transcript beyond surface level GPA? Hope you're right, bro.

Come back when you have an LSAT score.
+1

you're a sophomore. go back to doing whatever college kids do these days. of course while keeping up that GPA. but in seriousness, 1 C will not destroy your future law career if that is want you want.

If someone has a C and an HYS overall GPA, they won't care about one grade because you otherwise made up for it if you kept your GPA that high.

I got a C+ in statistics myself, and graduated with a 3.9 (LSDAS 3.8 ).

I will forever regret that C+, like a high school quarter back continually looks back on that one big play; the one that could have made him a star; but instead, he turns out fat, alcoholic, married to the washed up head cheerleader, and spending Thursday nights at the bowling alley, his league now the only glory he can possibly chase.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to hope Florida Coastal has good placement.

(Alternatively: I really did get a C+ in stats, but it didn't hurt me at all. In at every school I applied; should have tried harder.)

God forbid if you have to settle for CCN.

Nothing to do, but just move on bro. A 3.8 is still a great GPA and with the right LSAT score you'll make it into a T6.

I also got a sizable ding in my GPA due to an intensive language course I took on my study abroad program (3.9x -> mid 3.8 ). Trust me, you really don't want to beat yourself up over it too much. It really can ruin your mood and cause more destruction later (especially if you start under-performing in other classes)

Withdraw pass? That's ridiculous.

Who the hell told you this? So untrue, especially at HYS.

Edit: Having said that, one C should not be an issue.

Can someone clarify, law schools look at the transcript basically just to see if there are any strange things that they might want explained, correct? Once that's done, all that really matters is LSDAS GPA?

But all law schools do look at the transcripts, right?

If you care about ONE c in college, you're missing the point.

I got a D in a class. took it over again and got an A. LSAC averaged both grades in my report- while my UG just erased teh D and replaced it with an A ( with a retake mark next to it) If you are unhappy with the grade- take the class over again. One bad grade wont ruin your chances- and admissons people understand that. They look at your transcrips to verify that you have earned a degree, and that your gpa is what you claim it to be.

With a 151 LSAT I don't think it matters too much so you're fine.

I had a C, got plenty of sweet acceptances. Overall GPA is really all that matters. One C and a shitton of As and you're good.

YMMV, but I had 2 Cs and 1 C+ my first semester of college. Pulled up my GPA from 2.4x that semester to 3.7x, got 3 T14's under my belt this cycle, and I suspect several more (possibly a CCN) had I not decided not to go to law school and withdrawn all of my applications. Granted, my LSAT saved my ass, but even then it was a retake.
