The question I keep asking myself when reading through this thread...What did you expect to gain by sending this email to Florida Coastal? Did you really think that a strongly worded email from a 0L would cause them to go: "you know, he (or she) is totally right. let's completely change the way we run our institution"?
I think it's annoying to get spammed by these schools too, but I just mark them as spam and delete them and go on with my life. How is possible for it to bother you enough that you sent this email that is now creating (potentially) some trouble for you?
The internet definitely dis-inhibits a lot of communication, but I think you should always ask yourself: 'is it okay with me if the entire world knows that I just said this?' and 'is there any possible way this could come back to bite me?'
What can I say? You're right, which is why I posted this to warn others, not just for human interest.
Don't misunderstand. I didn't post this to challenge you. You obviously wish you hadn't sent it, or this discussion would not be taking place. I am honestly wondering about your motivation.

Also, a higher T14 had just contacted me to inform me that, although living around the poverty level (counting dependents), my parents make too much money to get need-based aid. Shattered dreams.

First person who forwards this thread to Florida Coastal's admissions office gets a prize.

Eh. I didn't have to include my parents' income, I made $2,200 last year, and I still didn't snag any need-based.

And since the admissions rep was laughing about it, maybe Florida Coastal just forwarded it for the lulz? I'm sure they get bored too, doesn't necessarily have to be punitive.

Nah I bet it was more of a "fuck this guy, let's see if we can put him in his place" kind of thing.

how does this work? are you a dependent? b/c if you only made 2,200 there's no way you were supporting yourself, right?

I don't know though, I think what OP did was totally in the right in doing this. It seems like a violation of privacy to forward an e-mail to all T14 admissions offices. . . who does that?
I think they are prey for (giggles) a law suit!

I was at school using excess scholarship money to live mostly, that and credit cards.
I got a waiver from having to report my parents' info from my school due to complications.

Because?
C'mon, I'm sure there's precedent for this. You can't just forward any e-mail you want for the intended punishment of an applicant just because they said some things that hurt your feelings. That is intentional slander. I've heard of lawsuits a lot crazier than that.

Slander must be intentional inaccurate information. Unless they added in a bunch of "FUCK YOU TTT"s, this wouldn't be
libel.

Alright, professor. Please elaborate as to what is considered privileged information? Just because you don't have one of those cheesy legal disclaimers at the bottom of your e-mail means that it isn't privileged? What is the difference between an e-mail like this and a letter sent in the mail? Hmm, so are they allowed to forward private letters around as well without blotting out personal information?

Privileged means its communication where a defined privileged relationship exists (doctor-patient, psychologist-client, attorney-client). Other than that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy.
(this is just from a UG Business law class, not my own over-zealous 0L research)

I am more interested in why Florida Coastal sent them that email. Since you did not use inflammatory language and it wasnt completely without cause, it was unlikely that they were going to take action against you. So why would they advertise this? "Hey T14, look at what your students think of us!" Have they proved you wrong?
Add: I am not saying you should have or should have not sent it, I am saying that a school is not going to base their admission decision on THAT email.

There's an easy solution to this:
1) Learn how to hax.
2) Hax the email server.
3) Wipe email lists.
4) Drop out of T14 and enroll into MIT.

I have a feeling you'd benefit from your own advice
I learned this lesson a long time ago. Newspaper called me three times a day asking if I wanted to subscribe. After three months I finally snapped on one of their salespeople. They now call me ten times a day. I've blocked five of their numbers and they just keep finding new ones.
NYT online has never done this to me. No wonder newspapers are dying.

Maybe it's just because NYT is a (semi) reputable company?

Google voice.
I would pay 150 bucks a year for this service.
But; it's free.
