What's up with these Harvard vs. "another school not named Yale or Stanford" threads these days?

This thread was to be expected though. You read "Entertainment Law" in the title and you know it's going to be a facepalm thread.dpk711 wrote:What's up with these Harvard vs. "another school not named Yale or Stanford" threads these days?

Well at least it wasn't an "International Human Rights Law" thread.whymeohgodno wrote:This thread was to be expected though. LOL. Imho, entertainment law is much worse. They both come across as naive, but at least the human rights applicants want to get a law degree to make the world a better place. The entertainment law applicants just want a degree to meet famous people.dpk711 wrote:Well at least it wasn't an "International Human Rights Law" thread.whymeohgodno wrote:This thread was to be expected though. I wonder what proportion of USC/UCLA applicants make it clear in their application materials that they have only applied to those schools to meet famous people? 1/3? 1/2? Postings on these boards would lead you to believe it's a large proportion.

MIT for Physics PhD, so you can invent a time machine, go back in time, and make friends with a celebrity before they become famous. That's more likely to happen than getting into entertainment law just based on the law school you go to.
The only person I know doing straight up entertainment law from HLS had the highest GPA the first year (at least), allowing him to get any internship he wanted; instead of Cravath, he picked an entertainment firm. Even then, it was a fight to get assigned to that department.

Go to a school with a good but not great sports program and find a sleeper athlete that will make it pro and buddy up to him so he'll make you his agent when he graduates. Done and done.

1- Anyone who thinks you should go to a school in a city other than LA or NYC where you can network is a fool.
2-You should already know famous people before you try and break into the field, if you think this is impossible then the industry is not for you.
3-If you think that biglaw runs the entertainment side of law then keep telling yourself that.
4-If you know what you really want rip it out of their cold dead hands and don't listen to anyone telling you otherwise. If you have any idea how the entertainment business works then you know they don't care if you did law school at Yale or Cooley, they want to know what you can do for them and who you know.
5-Always have party favors
